Lemon Rasam / Lemon Dal

Lemon Rasam is a simple and delicious South Indian curry that can be prepared in jiffy. You can have this with rice with just a papad or a pickle. Its tangy and when served with hot rice topped with a teasp oon of desi ghee, its tastes superb. 

Lemon Rasam/ Lemon Dal

Toor/ Tur Dal - 1/4 cup

Tomato - 1 , chopped

Haldi/ Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tsp

Green Chillies - 3 or 4 slit

Lemon - 2

Salt to taste

Fresh Coriander leaves , for garnishing


Ghee/  Oil - 1 tsp

Mustard seeds 

Curry Leaves

Hing/ Asafoetida - A pinch

Lemon Rasam/ Lemon Dal


1. Pressure cook dal with haldi and 1 chopped tomato.

2. When done, drain the water and mash the dal.

3. To the preserved water, add slit green chillies, salt to taste and mashed dal. Bring this to a boil.

4. Prepare the tempering and add this to the dal and garnish with freshly chopped coriander leaves.

5. Switch off the flame and allow it to cool for about 10 mins.

6. Add juice of two lemon and give a stir.

Serve with rice and any of these simple vegetable side dishes.
