Chivda (Rice Flakes Mixture)


Chivda is one of the most famous Indian snack. This namkeen snack is prepared mostly during Diwali festival and  is popularly known as Chivda in Maharashtra. Its made from thin- beaten rice flakes(Poha/ Avalakki) or even with puffed rice (chirmuri). 

Here's the recipe of Chivda made from Beaten Rice flakes

Ingredients

Thin(beaten) Rice Flakes/ Poha/ Avalakki - 1/2 kg

Roasted Peanuts - 1/2 cup

Fried Gram (putani) - 1/4 cup

Haldi/ Turmeric powder- 1 tsp

Green Chilles (slit) - 5

Salt to taste

Dry Coconut/ Cobri thin slices - 1/4 cup

Sugar- 2 tsp

Few Curry leaves

Oil - 2 tbsp

Cashews and Raisins - Optional

Method

1. Fry peanuts, fried gram , green chillies, dry coconut slices, curry leaves and cashews separately with little oil and keep it aside.

2. Heat oil in a wide pan. Add haldi, salt and the cleaned avalakki(poha). Add all the above mentioned  ingredients except raisins and sugar. Fry it in a low flame till the poha becomes crisp. (Gently stir the poha.)

3.  Remove from the flame and add sugar and raisins.

4. Gently mix all together and spread it on a paper. Allow it to be cooled completely before storing it  in an air - tight container.
