Crab Masala

Here's the recipe of simple ,mouth watering, tasty Crab Masala recipe.

I just love crabs. My Grandma used to prepare this whenever we went to her place during vaccation. She is staying in Goa for almost 25yrs by now, would introduce such sea food recipes whenever we visited her. I just love the way she used to prepare crabs. One dish i remember and till date never attempted is steam the crab with just salt and pepper. The taste is awesome.

Now coming back to Crab Masala, I just prepared it exactly the same way i prepared Prawns Sukka/ Masala. Click on the link to see the picture.


250 g fresh crab cleaned

1 big onion finely chopped

2 tomotoes finely chopped

Ginger- garlic paste 2 -3 tsp

Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp

Red chilli powder 2-3 tsp

Grated coconut 1-2 tbsp

Salt to taste

3 tsp oil

Dhania(coriander) powder 2 tsp

Garam masala (optional) 2tsp . You can skip this if you are using dhania powder or you can equalize both. I prepared this dish without adding garam masala.


1. Clean the crabs and keep aside.

2. Heat 3 tsp oil in a kadai. Add chopped onion and fry till it turns translucent.

3. Add ginger- garlic paste and fry for 3 mins.

4. Now add chopped tomotoes and cook till they become soft, that is for 2 -3 mins more.

5. Add fresh, cleaned crabs along with little water. Close the lid and cook.

6. After cooking  crabs for 6-7 minutes, add red chilli powder , salt, grated coconut and dhania powder.

7. Mix well and close the lid for the crabs to cook for another 10 mins in medium flame. Add more water if needed.

8. Lastly add little fresh coriander leaves ( chopped) and mix well or garnish with coriander leaves.

Hot and spicy Crab Masala is ready to serve.
